What should and shouldn’t be in children consequences.
I know it's common to have problems with our children, there is a model called the problem handling model. In this model there's three different sections. According to the sections there are the first which concerns the parents the second which is the parent-child relationship and the third is just the child. so when you're dealing with problems when it comes to Justice child there certain precautions you can take to make sure that the child learns and the most efficient and effective way. And the big answer to this child learning is allowing what is called natural consequences.
When it comes to Natural consequences we know that the world has quite the way of giving consequences to our actions. As with any human if you do something that isn't good usually something bad happens as a result. this is the idea of what natural consequences are. as a parent do you have to be careful with allowing what consequence can come natural in what may actually hinder the child. This brings concern to what a parent should and should not allow when allowing the principle of natural consequence. which leads me to my next paragraph
do not allow a natural consequence for your child if it was too dangerous. for example if the child wanted to ride his bike in the street and as a result of him being irresponsible a car can hit this will be one example of a natural consequence being too dangerous. Another example is if it can harm others too much. for example knowing that it is not good to hit others so allowing your child to get into a fight would be a scenario of the natural consequence being too dangerous. The third scenario is if the consequences are too far to be lessons that occur in the future. An example of this is allowing your child to skip Middle School in high school and as a result never go to college and remain unemployed, this would be too extreme of a natural consequence to the allowed. the next form of the problem handling model begins with solely parenting.
the consequences that can come from parents are what are called logical consequences. You would not jump to giving logical consequences until you take some steps before to prevent your child having to deal with getting punished. naturally if someone doesn't that you do not like you would ask politely for them to try to change or improve whatever that is bothering you so the first step in the sequence of natural consequences is simply a request to the chile. If this does not work then you can move on to what it called an i-statement in an i-statement you say what is bothering you and follow that with why you are bothered for what they are doing. If this does not work then you will need to be firm and if that does not work then you will have to give a logical consequence.
what are child misbehaves you have to think about what is appropriate for the misbehavior of the child you also have to think about the logical consequence being related to the misbehavior. for example if your child uses your favorite water cup but doesent wash it then you would tell the child “if you use my water cup tomorrow then I will store my cup in a locker so you can't use it”. This would show the child that when he disrespects or causes trouble for another person that it causes even more trouble during turn on him which is a logical consequence.
